Sustainability Projects
Zero Waste Production
We carry out our activities as Banvit MBRF, considering the issue of preventing food waste. We minimize yield losses in our slaughterhouses; with our rendering facilities and our integrations in Bandırma, Elazığ and Izmir, we ensure the recovery of all animal wastes generated in the production process, as well as the recovery of a small quantity of trial products that may arise from special product returns and R&D product testing processes. The raw materials we recover in our rendering facilities are sold especially to companies producing fish feed or pet food, thus contributing to animal nutrition. On the other hand, our facilities operating in all our production campuses in Bandırma, İzmir and Elazığ continue their work with "Zero Waste" certificates issued by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.

Recyclable Packaging Commitment
We are working to develop products that meet the needs and expectations of our consumers, as well as to bring innovations to the packaging side while presenting these products to our consumers. Of the packaging materials we use, 98% are recyclable. We aim for 100% of our packaging materials to be recyclable, reusable, or biologically degradable by 2025.
Wastewater Recovery
In order to reduce our footprint in nature; we have applications in various areas ranging from energy to recyclable packaging, from conservation measures to education, from animal welfare to waste management. We have been working for many years specifically to reduce our water footprint. In this context, through our "Wastewater Recovery Facility" located in our Bandırma main campus, we recover an average of 2,000 tons of purified water daily at drinking water quality. In 2021, 43% of the water we purified and recovered at our Bandırma facilities was of drinking and utility water quality. As a result of our ongoing efforts, we increased the ratio of water we converted to drinking water quality by 6.5% compared to the previous year. Again, in 2021, we reduced water consumption by 5.71% in total across all our production facilities on a m3 basis. Additionally, during the same period, we managed to achieve an 8% water savings per kg in chicken meat production. Our goal is to reduce our water usage by 13% in all our facilities by the year 2025.

Renewable Energy
As a very important milestone for our sustainability efforts, it is aimed to reach the “Net Zero” target by 2040, with a goal to reduce direct emissions from MBRF’s all operations and energy consumption of these operations by 35% and indirect emissions, which are part of the value chain, by 12.3% by 2030. In addition, by carrying out projects that will contribute to nature, such as afforestation projects, it is planned to balance the remaining emissions and achieve the “Net Zero” target. Our global company MBRF met 91% of its total energy used in 2020 from renewable energy sources. By 2030, it aims to provide 50% of the electricity it consumes from its own generated clean energy sources. As MBRF’s Turkey operation, we use natural gas, which is a much more environmentally friendly and clean energy source compared to many traditional fuel types in our facilities. We continue our efforts regarding electricity and natural gas savings while all processes are continuously improved and optimized. Additionally, in parallel with this process, we are researching alternative energy sources and conducting studies regarding the use of solar and wind energy in our production process.
